About Plano

Founded in 1873, Plano grew slowly from a small community of 1,304 in 1900, rising to only 3,695 by the year 1960. By 1990 however, the population had risen to over 128,000, with the town growing accordingly. Plano’s planning initiatives helped the city expand smoothly, with the quality of the area earning it an All-America City Award in 1994. However, Plano is surrounded by other municipalities and therefore cannot expand any further, with little undeveloped land remaining within the city limits. The city’s high schools rank among the best in the United States, and their park system is expansive, with one park being larger than New York City’s Central Park.

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit expands into Plano, allowing for an easy commute into the big city. Because of it’s close proximity to Dallas, and it’s much lower tax rate, multiple major corporations are headquartered in Plano. A few of the corporations with offices in the area include Toyota USA, Cinemark Theaters, and the Dr. Pepper-Snapple Group.
